Basketball Season This one goes out to the NBA, especially Stu Jackson. An unprecedented suspension deserves an unprecedented appeal. Kobe Bryant suspended for a game after "striking" Manu Ginobili in the face with an unintentional elbow. After being first blocked by Manu and unintentionally hit in the face and shoulder on the follow through after the block. So I guess my question is where's Manu's suspension?? Not to mention that the 3 officials didn't call a foul on either player. And Manu, Kobe, Phil, and Popovich all maintain that the hit was unintentional. Players association officials said it was highly unusual, if not unprecedented, for a player to be suspended for inadvertent contact. Stu Jackson himself says "this action by Kobe was an unnatural basketball act." Reggie Miller kicking everyone on a jumpshot to get a foul call is an unnatural basketball act and yet he was never suspended. After being bombarded all day by ESPN's Sports Commentators with this news I find that Jackson is the only one who thinks this. AND!!! How do you not give a guy a chance to appeal immediately. "This is not the process we use at the NBA," Stu Jackson, executive vice president of player operations, said of Bryant's request during a conference call on Tuesday evening. "Certainly in theory, given the fact that the Lakers were in New York, we could have heard an appeal, but we never have. That's not our process." What about the process of letting the Officials call the game. What's the point in having them there if Stu can just suspend you anyways ?? -Marnold btw I sent a copy of this to both D. Stern and S. Jackson. |
